A Draw Or A Win As Murray/Adidas Beat Djokovic/Uniqlo

Two boys became men tonight.  Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic met on the hard court outside NYC and left it all on the concrete.  Andy Murray, the Olympic gold medalist, has never won a major tounament.  Djokovic, on the other hand, has worked his way into the top three over the last several years, sharing the spotlight with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.  Yet, 2012 is the year of Andy Murray.

A match that lasted almost five hours (and was the longest US Open final in history) ended in the favor of the Brits.  Murray took the first set in a historic tiebreaker worth 22 points, then took the second (despite Djokovic coming back from 5-0 to tie it 5-5), but lost the third and fourth sets to the established pro.  When the fifth set came around, Murray knew that it was now or never.   1936 was the last time a Brit won a major and Andy Murray clawed his way to the top of tennis taking the title of the 2012 US Open tonight.

Although Murray won, there is no doubt that both players left it all out on the court tonight so that is hard to see an actual winner.  They both deserve praise, yet Andy came out with the $1.9M prize.  Djokovic warrants major r-e-s-p-e-c-t for fighting until the end, forcing a fifth set, and showing why he is one of the best in the world.

Yet, the true players to earn a “draw” tonight are Adidas and Uniqlo.  Adidas represents Murray who sported a white shirt and navy shorts.  Uniqlo, Djokovic’s sponosor, provided him with a matchy matchy royal blue outfit.  Matchy matchy ain’t usually on the best dressed list, but Djokovic can walk down the runway, while Murray celebrates the Grand Slam win.
